Greetings From Farmer Darby

Nice to meet you, Farmer D Fanatics!

My name is Darby Weaver and I am the newest edition to the Farmer D Organics team. I just moved to Atlanta all the way from Vermont and I couldn't be more excited! I can't even believe how warm it is this time of year and how much is still growing. The people I have encountered have all been so welcoming and the Southern Cuisine is to die for! I think it must be the warm weather that makes everyone smile so much. I am definitely already picking up an accent!

.

I am eager to get involved in the urban and backyard farming culture that seems to be taking over the city. It is an exciting time for agriculture, especially in heavily populated areas like Atlanta. Before I moved to the South, I was studying Sustainable Agriculture at Sterling College in northern Vermont. During my three years of studying ag in Vermont I had done my share of farm work on a number of different farms. The school I attended had an animal and vegetable farm that provided food for the college cafeteria. I co-managed the livestock and students working with the livestock and helped teach an Animal Science course to incoming freshman students. My jobs outside of the campus have ranged everywhere from raising calves on a 400 cow dairy farm, working under a meat cutter and learning how to butcher meat, to growing 4 acres of vegetables on an organic vegetable farm.

I have surrounded myself with animals since I was child. Working with livestock has always come naturally to me and forming symbiotic relationships with animals is one of my greatest interests. City living doesn't necessarily lend itself to being very barnyard friendly, but I am learning that lots of people in Atlanta and its surrounding areas keep chickens and goats, which is great! I look forward to getting to know all of you! I have put in my fair share of time with vegetables and fruit too. Nutrition is another one of my passions and understanding the health benefits of fruits, vegetables, meats, and oils was one of my focuses in college.

I have made a happy home at the Norcross Farmer D Organics Garden Center. This Farmer D location has had a slow introduction, but you better believe it is time to make it the North Atlanta agriculture center it is meant to be! With a newly stocked inventory and the presence of yours truly, I hope to make it a safe space for agriculture experts and beginners to learn and grow together. Let's build a community! If you live in the area or are a big Farmer D fan, please stop by the Norcross Garden Center and introduce yourself. I am anxious to hear all about your garden or animal adventures and help you with your agriculture needs.

I look forward to growing with you!
